St. Joseph Church in Cordova, Maryland was founded in 1765 by Jesuit priest Father Joseph Mosley the Mission of St. Joseph's remained in sole charge until his death on June 3, 1787. In 1864, the Mission was transferred to the Diocese of Wilmington. The 350-acre farm surrounding St. Joseph's was held until 1882, when it was sold to John P. Steele. The Church and a few acres surrounding it, were retained. St. Joseph's was rebuilt in its present design in 1900, and is the oldest Catholic Church in existence on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Former Ss. Peter & Paul Church was built in 1868.

The Diocese of Wilmington has decided to close St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, citing a long-term decline in membership at the 96-year-old parish which was once a vibrant part of WilmingtonÕs Polish community.
